About Umweltzone Check
Radif Partners
Publisher of an independent reference on German low-emission zones that traces every zone back to the Federal Environment Agency register and the clean-air plan behind it
Umweltzone Check is published by Radif Partners, an independent publisher with no link to any authority. It answers the three questions every driver has before heading into a German city: which sticker does my vehicle get, is there still a low-emission zone in this city, and what happens if I drive in without the right sticker?
Why this site exists
Since 2023 many cities have lifted their zone, others keep it, and a few also ban older diesels. Searching today turns up lists that still show zones lifted years ago, pages that want to sell you a sticker and fine amounts that are out of date. We wanted the opposite: every zone traced back to the Federal Environment Agency list, every lifting given with its date, and an open statement of what we could not confirm.
Umweltzone Check tells you in one step whether your vehicle may enter a given city on a given day: with the 35 active and 23 lifted zones of the official list, the emission group under the 35th BImSchV, the diesel bans and the fine set by the fine catalogue, with no sign-up and no sticker sales.
Where the information comes from
Zones, stages and liftings: the Federal Environment Agency list. Vehicle groups and exemptions: the 35th BImSchV as amended on 25 September 2026. Fine: the Fine Catalogue Ordinance. City details: the cities’ and states’ own pages and clean-air plans. Everything is listed with its reading date in the method.
What we are not
Radif Partners is not the Federal Environment Agency or a city, not a registration office and not a vehicle testing body. We issue no stickers, sell none and recommend no issuing office. The signs on site and the key number in your papers are what count.
Funding and data
The site is free and needs no sign-up. The checks run in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere. If advertising ever appears here, it will never sit above a check or be presented as a recommendation.
Two languages
The site is in German and English, for drivers from Germany and for anyone driving a foreign-registered vehicle into a German city.
